Through the eyes of the Government of Canada, a self-employed person means a foreign national who has relevant experience and has the intention and ability to be self-employed in Canada and to make a significant contribution to specified economic activities.

 

What are these specified economic activities?

• Creative and performing artists

• Writing, translating and communication

• Sport announcers, and referees

• Athletes and coaches 

• And some related occupations

Eligibility requirements:

​

• Show relevant experience ( intention and the ability to become self-employed in Canada)

• The applicant must show minimum two 1-year periods of full-time relevant experience within the past 5 years 

• Demonstrate intention and ability of being self-employed in Canada through business plan, finances and visits

• Score a minimum on the point system which evaluates language proficiency level, work experience, age, education and adaptability points
